However, in order to use TeamSpeak 3, you need a valid license key. A license key is a file named licensekey.dat that contains information about your TeamSpeak 3 server and its authorized usage. Without a license key, your TeamSpeak 3 server will run in a limited mode that only allows up to 32 slots (users) and one virtual server.

There are different types of licenses available for TeamSpeak 3, depending on your needs and preferences. In this article, we will explain how to get, activate, and troubleshoot your licensekey.dat file for TeamSpeak 3.

How to get teamspeak 3 license key.dat?

The first step to get your licensekey.dat file is to decide which type of license you want for your TeamSpeak 3 server. There are three main types of licenses:

  • Non-Profit License (NPL): This is a free license that allows you to run up to two virtual servers with up to 512 slots each. This license is intended for non-commercial use only, such as hobbyists, clans, guilds, etc. To apply for an NPL, you need to register on the TeamSpeak website and fill out an application form. You will receive an email with your licensekey.dat file attached if your application is approved.

  • Athorized TeamSpeak Host Provider (ATHP): This is a paid license that allows you to run unlimited virtual servers with unlimited slots. This license is intended for commercial use only, such as hosting providers, resellers, etc. To purchase an ATHP license, you need to contact TeamSpeak directly and negotiate a contract based on your expected usage. You will receive an email with your licensekey.dat file attached if your contract is finalized.

  • Gamer License: This is a paid license that allows you to run up to one virtual server with up to 1024 slots. This license is intended for personal use only, such as streamers, influencers, etc. To buy a Gamer License, you need to visit the TeamSpeak website and choose a plan that suits your needs. You will receive an email with your licensekey.dat file attached if your payment is processed.

Once you have received your licensekey.dat file via email, you need to download it and save it on your computer.

How to activate teamspeak 3 license key.dat?

The next step to activate your licensekey.dat file is to place it in the root directory of your TeamSpeak 3 server installation folder. The root directory is the folder that contains the main executable files of your TeamSpeak 3 server, such as ts3server.exe, tsdns.exe, etc.

The location of the root directory may vary depending on how you installed your TeamSpeak 3 server. For example, if you downloaded the TeamSpeak 3 server package from the official website and extracted it on your desktop, the root directory would be something like C:\Users\YourName\Desktop\teamspeak3-server_win64. If you are not sure where your root directory is, you can search for ts3server.exe on your computer and see where it is located.

To place your licensekey.dat file in the root directory, you can simply drag and drop it from your download folder or copy and paste it using Windows Explorer or any other file manager. Make sure that the file name remains licensekey.dat and does not change during the transfer.

The final step to activate your licensekey.dat file is to stop and restart the TeamSpeak 3 server master binary process. The master binary process is the main program that runs your TeamSpeak 3 server and handles all the connections and operations. To stop and restart the master binary process, you can use one of these methods:

  • Via command line: Open a command prompt window (cmd.exe) and navigate to your root directory using the cd command. Then type ts3server_startscript.sh stop (for Linux) or ts3server_startscript.bat stop (for Windows) to stop the master binary process. Wait for a few seconds until you see a confirmation message that says "Server stopped". Then type ts3server_startscript.sh start (for Linux) or ts3server_startscript.bat start (for Windows) to restart the master binary process.

  • Via task manager: Open the task manager window (ctrl+alt+del) and look for a process named ts3server.exe. Right-click on it and select "End task" or "End process" to stop the master binary process. Wait for a few seconds until it disappears from the list. Then go back to your root directory and double-click on ts3server.exe or tsdns.exe (depending on which one you use) to restart the master binary process.

  • Via service manager: Open the service manager window (services.msc) and look for a service named "TeamSpeak 3 Server". Right-click on it and select "Stop" or "Stop service" to stop the master binary process. Wait for a few seconds until it changes its status from "Running" to "Stopped".
